Dear members,
Another month has passed, yet no
further candidates for the Board have stepped up. I probably should have
written something into the Bylaws for the case where we only had two (or fewer)
people willing to serve on the Board, but I didn't. It seems that I was
confused by how many people want this organization to continue existing; I
assumed that more of them might be willing to actually do something to make
that possible. My mistake.
Per the Bylaws, the period for
candidates for the Board to declare themselves will be extended until the end
of June, and for a month every month thereafter, until such time as someone
gets fed up with the situation enough to volunteer.
C'mon, folks, it's not that hard; the
Board just needs to rubberstamp some appointments once per year and the Chair
just needs to spend an hour every few months updating people's points. It's not
like any of you actually do anything that requires governance or organization.

Convention Report: Atlanta Sci-Fi &
Fantasy Expo

This
is a small, free convention at an old shopping mall on the east side of
Atlanta. It is organized by the owner of a game and comics store located in the
mall. The con took place on a weekend in March. They only had events on
Saturday and Sunday. I was only there Saturday. I believe David Millians was
there Sunday only and already did a convention report.
I
signed up to moderate two panels on Saturday. One of them was a "Q&A
with the game biz pros" panel. The panelists were Rob Hatch and Dan Fox.
Rob worked for White Wolf years ago and was lead designer for the Aberrant RPG.
Dan had some early involvement with Lion Rampant and White Wolf then started
his own company, Sutton Hoo Games. He designed and published an RPG called
Halmabrea. Only one person showed up for the panel, so it was rather informal.
I also signed up to do the "Intro to tabletop RPGs" panel. Several
people showed up. Only one of them had no experience at all with RPGs. I
focused the discussion on her but did answer questions from some of the others
who only had a little experience. After the panel, I ran a brief scenario using
the Rules Cyclopedia version of D&D for the total newbie and some of the
other folks.
The
empty store front that was used for gaming was huge. The folks who were gaming
really only used about 1/4 of the space. It's a shame the organizers did not
make better use of it.
The
con had other panels about a variety of fandom/geeky topics. There was a also a
dealer's area that had maybe thirty tables.
As
to demographics, I'd estimate attendance was 50% black and 50% white on
Saturday. The male/female ratio was maybe 70%/30%.

a convention, be sure and check the conventions table and let us have a copy of
the fliers (or at very least the when, what, where, and contact information)
for upcoming conventions available there. CAR-PGa is international, so this
includes anywhere in the world.
